- ➤ The state of New York is awarding Schneider Packaging Equipment Co. a $1 million incentive to move a production line from Quebec to Brewerton, which will create 20 jobs and boost production capacity at its existing facility. Syracuse.com

- ➤ The Jugg on Teall, a live music venue on Teall Ave, is hosting its final concerts this week on Friday, Jan. 9, Saturday, Jan. 10 and Sunday, Jan. 11 before closing permanently at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 15 due to ongoing challenges & plans to continue its legacy online. Syracuse.com

- ➤ Syracuse University injected nearly $2 billion into the local economy & supported over 14,000 jobs through payroll, construction, and research spending, according to a report released Jan. 5. The study also shows SU’s role in boosting visitor spending and local business growth. Syracuse.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials say water may not flow from the ruptured underground pipe in Cicero until mid-month because crews must finish laying a 134-ft replacement and conduct testing (meeting health department standards). Residents and businesses need to maintain conservation measures until then. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Town of Clay officials announced that Superior Waste Removal will be the new trash hauler in 2026 + residents who rented totes from Butler Disposal saw pickups begin on Monday, Jan. 5. Tote rentals cost $150 for a five-year term, and pickups remain on the same schedule. CNY Central
- ➤ Mandatory water conservation is in effect in Manlius and crews are drawing water from a nearby stream using portable equipment—an effort to save municipal water for fire apparatus cleaning while repairs on a major transmission main continue. - ➤ Gov. Hochul announced proposals to protect children online and expand mental health resources for teens. The legislation will update privacy settings for children and require Mental Health First Aid training for 10th-graders (a move to address youth mental health challenges). CNY Central
