- ➤ Syracuse Firefighters responded to a fire at 711 First North St. on Jan. 21 — they discovered smoke hidden in a kitchen wall and extinguished the blaze in 10 minutes, leaving two residents displaced and assisted by family. CNY Central

- ➤ The Clerk's House (a new bakery behind The Cider Mill in Onondaga Hill) opened on Jan. 21 and sold out of its homemade sourdough bread while also offering special sandwiches. CNY Central

- ➤ Green Beer Sunday is set for Sunday, Feb. 22 at Coleman's Authentic Irish Pub on S. Lowell Ave in Tipperary Hill, featuring a noon parade and live music by DJ Skeet and Mere Mortals. - ➤ State regulators approved a 20-year extension for nuclear subsidies that will keep four upstate reactors online from 2029 to 2049 — a move aimed at protecting energy reliability and preserving 2,000 local jobs while only increasing electric bills by about $2.80 a month. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Longtime attorney and Salina town justice Paul Carey died Wednesday at age 76, prompting moments of silence in Onondaga County courtrooms.
