- ➤ Liz Nowak, executive director of the Syracuse Area Music Awards since 1991, is retiring after a 35-year career marking her deep ties to local music. The free event honoring her work is set for today at 7 p.m. at the Palace Theater in Eastwood & will be streamed online. WAER
- ➤ Syracuse Stage announced its 2026–27 season, featuring six shows that include Tony Award-winning musicals and world premieres like The Black Nationals and Dust and Shadow: The Unraveling of Sherlock Holmes, running Sept. 16 to June 20. - ➤ The College of Arts and Sciences announced a five-year plan to boost research and teaching in four areas (climate, health, culture and tech) that was shared during engagement events in October 2025 and February. - ➤ Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens announced the launch of Community Solar on Thursday — residents, renters, and businesses can join for free to receive up to 10% off National Grid bills, with a 20% discount for income-qualified households through local solar farms via Solar Simplified. CNY Central
- ➤ Over 100 volunteer firefighters and officials gathered on March 5 at East Syracuse Fire Station 1 to ask state lawmakers to allow paying volunteers up to $12,000 a year—backed by local taxpayers—to help recruit and keep more volunteers amid a staffing shortage. Syracuse.com
