CULTURE NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • This weekend’s warmup melted heavy snow, revealing more ground at Chittenango Falls amid a surge of water flowing into nearby streams — creating dramatic waterfall displays across Central New York.  CNY Central

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The West Kirkpatrick Street bridge will close today for repairs to replace joints and protect safety. The bridge will be closed for several weeks (subject to weather) with detours along Van Rensselaer, Spencer and Solar Streets while pedestrians keep using the Creekwalk.  Syracuse.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Westhill boys basketball won its fourth straight sectional title on Saturday at OCC’s SRC Arena by defeating Institute of Technology 56-46 to improve to 23-0. The team will face Franklin Academy on March 15 at 1 p.m. in the regional round.  Syracuse.com
  • Bishop Ludden-Grimes secured a 59 to 55 win over Liverpool in the Class AAA final on Sunday at SRC Arena; Jahzar Greene led with 24 points as the team earned a back-to-back Section III title.  Syracuse.com
  • The Syracuse Crunch beat the Utica Comets 4-1 (with Dylan Duke scoring twice) as Nick Abruzzese and Brendan Furry added key goals. They will host the Toronto Marlies at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Adirondack Bank Center (Crunch extend their winning streak).  Syracuse.com
  • Cooperstown remained unbeaten as its boys basketball team beat Cato-Meridian 74-51 at Allyn Arena on Mar. 8 & will face Notre Dame in state play Sunday at OCC at 5 p.m.  Syracuse.com
  • Tucker Burnett led Marcellus to a 66-62 win over Skaneateles at Onondaga Community College on Sunday, scoring 36 points and giving nine assists to secure the team's third straight sectional title.  Syracuse.com
  • Baldwinsville native Scott Blewett has returned to the majors after last season with three teams and an overseas stint that refined his splitter; the 29-year-old credited one small adjustment + his wife's support for turning his career around after serious setbacks.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse lost 71-69 to Pittsburgh in overtime on Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome as coach Adrian Autry finished his home games amid recurring late-game errors; the Orange now must win two ACC tournament games to avoid back-to-back losing seasons (a challenging prospect for the team).  Syracuse.com
