COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Syracuse has launched an Adopt-a-Trail program to ask residents, businesses, and groups to help care for the Onondaga Creekwalk and Empire State Trail. Participants will remove litter, report maintenance needs, and host cleanup events throughout the year.  WAER

CRIME NEWS

  • The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Computer Crimes Unit arrested a 21-year-old man, Korey A. Emmons, on March 13 at a North Syracuse home on Meadowbrook Drive for possessing and distributing child pornography after receiving several cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.  CNY Central
  • A Syracuse man was found guilty after less than two hours of jury deliberation for fatally shooting a pregnant woman near the Rescue Mission on Dec. 15, 2023+ public and private security cameras recorded the incident.  Syracuse.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Syracuse's International Taste Festival was named the 9th best cultural festival in America by USA Today after experts and public voting— the event will run on April 12 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Center of Progress Building and will feature 32 vendors, a 5K/10K race, music and family-friendly entertainment.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse’s 2025 St. Patrick’s Parade starts at noon Saturday with Mayor Ben Walsh as grand marshal; the event begins at Clinton Square and marches along Salina Street. A total of 136 groups – including bands, dancers and local community figures – will join the march along with a 10 a.m. Mass, parking changes and a shuttle to Tipperary Hill for post-parade festivities.  Syracuse.com

  • Nottingham returned to the state girls basketball rankings after winning its first sectional title in 20 years on Sunday plus Section III now has 17 ranked teams with no teams falling out this week.  Syracuse.com
  • Two top Section III boys hockey teams from West Genesee and Skaneateles head to LECOM Harborcenter in Buffalo this weekend to play in the state semifinals. West Genesee remains undefeated & will try to earn its fourth championship while Skaneateles aims to build its winning record.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse.com started the high school spring sports season on March 13, 2025 — at Onondaga Community College’s Allyn Gym where flag football players and track coaches answered questions and posed for photos. A second media day is set for Saturday to cover more spring sports.  Syracuse.com
