- ➤ Syracuse University and Onondaga Community College are expanding their engineering programs by hiring up to 30 new faculty and adding 150 students as they prepare for Micron’s chip manufacturing complex near Clay. Today, SU hosts a panel discussion at 10:00 a.m. at the National Veterans Resource Center—experts will talk about training programs for a growing semiconductor workforce. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Syracuse University Chancellor Syverud informed the University Senate about budget plans and a response to recent federal policy changes, noting that after a balanced FY24 budget and an ongoing balanced FY25, the university will propose a balanced FY26 budget and will not carry out large-scale layoffs or hiring freezes—he added that faculty, staff, and students are being consulted and more details will be shared at the April 19 Senate meeting. - ➤ The North Syracuse Central School District is hosting an in-person kindergarten registration event at the Jerome F. Melvin Administrative Office Building in North Syracuse for families with children born on or before Dec. 1 who will soon start school. The event runs from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. with additional sessions on April 1, April 2, and April 3 at local elementary schools — families must bring required documents or email them to complete registration.
