ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a fire on March 21 at the former Sisters of Saint Francis convent complex on the north side of Syracuse where a smoke plume was seen for miles—roads near Grant Boulevard and Court Street were closed and the vacant property had been the focus of attempted apartment conversions amid illegal occupancy.  CNY Central

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sept. 6th, 2023, an Onondaga County deputy shot two unarmed teens in a DeWitt parking lot during a burglary investigation, and the state Attorney General’s Office announced Friday that no charges would be filed because a prosecutor could not prove the deputy believed he was in danger—his dashcam had been off before he arrived.  Syracuse.com
  • A 23 year old woman was shot on Friday in the 100 block of East Beard Avenue and taken to Upstate University Hospital for a graze wound to the back of her head — police said she is in stable condition.  Syracuse.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • After an 18-2 win Tuesday, No. 10 Syracuse will play No. 18 Colgate today at the JMA Wireless Dome, and experts say the game will be close. Key players such as faceoff expert John Mullen and junior Joey Spallina are expected to drive the offense to help Syracuse win.  The Daily Orange
  • On March 21, the LaFargeville girls basketball team won the NYSPHSAA Class D state championship at Hudson Valley Community College with a 43-37 victory over Northville. Emeline Barton scored 25 points and led her team to its first-ever title despite a tight finish — the lead shrank to two points with two minutes left.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse and Colorado filed NCAA paperwork for joint practices and a scrimmage in Boulder, with Syracuse adjusting its spring schedule after opening practice on March 21. Coach Fran Brown said the scrimmage against the Buffaloes is planned for next month—aiming to test a new NFL-style practice format.  Syracuse.com
