EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ukrainian Fulbright scholar Tetiana Pohorielova is at Syracuse University since February studying veteran reintegration with local experts — Joseph Ditre and Kenneth Marfilius — to develop a framework that supports Ukrainian soldiers transitioning to civilian life. - ➤ Professor Bill Coplin retired Jan. 1 after 56 years at Syracuse University mentoring tens of thousands in policy studies; his legacy lives on with a new endowed fund that alumna Rebecca Edelman ’03 will match donations for up to $10,000 through the end of March. Syracuse University
- ➤ Syracuse University’s Student Government revised its constitution and now awaits board of elections approval ahead of a referendum on the changes. - ➤ Onondaga County leaders have issued a request for proposals to redevelop the long-vacant ShoppingTown Mall in DeWitt after addressing legal and ownership issues (proposals are expected in about 40 days and a selected developer may close the project in 2026). CNY Central

- ➤ A new $500,000 lead-safe house called Howard’s House opened Tuesday in southwest Syracuse to provide shelter for families with children testing positive for lead poisoning—its four units will welcome the first family within the next month. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Crouse Health and a local healthcare union urge Governor Hochul and lawmakers to close a 2 billion Medicaid funding gap and protect patient care in Central New York. They warn cuts may hamper staffing and care if the gap is not addressed by April 1. WAER

- ➤ Gerry McNamara ’06 (appointed March 24) has been named head coach of Syracuse University’s men’s basketball team, returning home after seasons at Siena.
