- ➤ Residents at Nob Hill say unsafe conditions persist nearly a month after a deadly fire claimed two lives; tenant leaders demanded immediate repairs to emergency lighting and smoke detectors and proposed criminal charges against owners during a city court hearing. WAER
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three Syracuse University professors (Duncan Brown, Kevin Crowston and Lisa Manning) were named AAAS Fellows in recognition of their pioneering research in science. It is the first time that three professors have received this honor in a single year at the university. Syracuse University
- ➤ A Fayetteville-Manlius board member asked the state comptroller to audit the secret hire of a PR firm that cost $20,000 last year by billing through a law firm — she says this bypassed district procurement rules. - ➤ Fifty new U.S. citizens were sworn in at the Institute of Technology at Syracuse Central on Thursday under the guidance of U.S. Chief Bankruptcy Judge Wendy A. Kinsella & the ceremony featured a musical performance to honor the milestone. CNY Central
- ➤ OCWA announced that from April 6 until June, about 1,060 customers will be chosen for a 2-x-1-foot inspection dig to check water line material; homeowners will receive a blue marker and door hanger before crews from T-K Harrington and Arcadis complete work without service interruption and later restore the grass. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Two Syracuse restaurants failed Onondaga County health inspections for issues such as rodent droppings (five dead mice were found) and moldy produce. Inspections on March 10 and March 11 required corrections while 70 other local establishments passed. Syracuse.com

- ➤ Gerry McNamara became Syracuse’s head basketball coach after a quick two-week search following Adrian Autry’s firing. University officials held in-person and Zoom interviews (including one with incoming AD Bryan Blair) before McNamara and his family agreed to return home. Syracuse.com
