CRIME NEWS

  • Sade Sullivan, the widow of Daquan Sullivan—whose loss has caused deep family pain—spoke in a Syracuse courtroom with one of her husband’s killers and said her 11-year-old daughter now fears going outside for fear of being shot.  Syracuse.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Whitman School of Management announced that alumnus Daniel A. D’Aniello will speak at the 2025 Convocation on May 10 at 4 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome. D’Aniello — a business leader with strong ties to Syracuse University — has supported programs for veterans and study abroad students.  Syracuse University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Syracuse launched an online tool called Look Before You Rent that gives renters key property information such as code violations, rental registration status and details on nearby schools, parks and bus stops (data provided by the Neighborhood and Business Development Department). City officials hope the tool will help renters find safe and healthy housing after noting that about two-thirds of rental properties were unregistered.  Syracuse.com
  • Work began this week on a $107 million renovation of Almus Olver Towers in Syracuse as officials announced the project — led by McCormack Baron Salazar and the Syracuse Housing Authority — will upgrade the 12-story public housing tower for seniors and people with disabilities. The work will add 7 new units and modernize kitchens, bathrooms and common areas and is expected to finish within 18 months while many residents can move back into their upgraded homes.  Syracuse.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The average home sale price in Onondaga County is now $301,300, up by $24,700—an 8.9% rise from last year.  Syracuse.com

  • Syracuse Crunch defeated the Toronto Marlies 4-1 at Upstate Medical University Arena today. Conor Geekie scored within 31 seconds and added a power-play goal while Ryan Fanti saved 30 shots—this win moved the team into third place in the North Division and they will travel to Toronto for the next game tomorrow.  Syracuse.com
  • Nate Kingz, a left-handed junior guard from Oregon State and the second transfer recruit for the Syracuse men’s basketball team, committed after coaches convinced him he would have a bigger role—he said they truly believed in him.  Syracuse.com
  • Carmelo Anthony is being honored as a member of the 2025 Basketball Hall of Fame today at the Final Four in San Antonio—Syracuse teammates and coaches say his impact will be felt for eternity—broadcast at noon on ESPN2.  Syracuse.com
