ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Six days after a 12-year-old student was hit by a car near Central Square Middle School and remains in critical condition, residents along Route 11 are calling for stronger traffic safety measures as a memorial and online petition mark the accident site.  CNY Central
  • On March 19th, a wildfire burned near homes and the zoo when firefighters battled 30-foot flames over four to five acres as a fire official said human involvement started the blaze but investigators could not tell if it was accidental or deliberate.  Syracuse.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tops Markets will close its store at 4410 E. Genesee Street in DeWitt on April 25 as it consolidates operations into nearby locations—employees have been offered positions at other Tops stores and the adjacent Tops Xpress gas station will remain open.  CNY Central

CRIME NEWS

  • At around 4:01 p.m. Sunday, officers from the Town of Manlius Police responded to reports of shots fired and a motor vehicle crash on the 200 block of Elmbrook Drive in the Village of Manlius — they provided emergency care and transported an adult man with gunshot wounds to SUNY Upstate Hospital where he later died as investigators from local agencies continued the inquiry with no evidence of a community threat.  CNY Central
  • Syracuse police responded to a stabbing early Saturday morning on the 300 block of Sterling Avenue at 3:38 a.m.—finding a 30-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso who was transported to University Hospital by American Medical Response, and his injuries were not life-threatening.  CNY Central
  • Syracuse police investigated a double shooting early Saturday morning on the 100 block of Ballantyne Road when officers, arriving at 1:04 a.m., found a 37-year-old man injured (gunshot wounds to his leg and abdomen) and a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his hand after both were taken to University Hospital and Community General Hospital, while multiple spent shell casings were discovered in a parking lot at 121 Ballantyne Road.  CNY Central

  • Syracuse University's Center for International Services hosted its annual International Festival where a dozen student organizations showcased cultural foods, performances, and decorative booths. The free event allowed each group to prepare a hot dish, a cold dish, and a drink to highlight their traditions before summer break.  CNY Central
