CULTURE NEWS

  • SU Pride Union held its 24th annual drag show finale on Saturday at Goldstein Auditorium where student performers and guest queens showcased creative looks and live music. Addie Raw (Ivy Monroe) won the contest and the event sparked strong local support for self-expression.  The Daily Orange

  • Jodi Kantor, the New York Times reporter, will speak at Newhouse on April 14 at 3 p.m. and at Oncenter at 7:30 p.m. in Syracuse to share advice on building a rewarding work life; her new book will release on April 21.  The Daily Orange
  • Syracuse University has named 12 committee members to select the next Hendricks Chapel dean. The group held a Zoom session on Friday and will host more sessions on April 13 at 3 p.m. & April 15 at 2 p.m.  The Daily Orange

  • Syracuse-based Flox Intelligence has launched Flox Edge that uses AI to create custom sounds to alert animals away from hazards such as roadways and mining sites.   • Nearly 2,000 gathered on Sunday, Apr. 12 at the SRC Arena — raising over $400K for heart health initiatives — and learned CPR techniques during the Heart Walk, organizers said.  CNY Central

  • No. 3 Syracuse edged No. 15 Notre Dame 10-9 & played the longest game in program history on April 11. Caroline Trinkaus scored the game-winning goal as time expired, extending the Orange’s win streak to 12.  The Daily Orange
  • No. 6 Syracuse men’s lacrosse defeated No. 9 Virginia 14-9 at the Dome on Saturday. Joey Spallina led with five points, midfielders Luke Rhoa and Wyatt Hottle scored hat tricks & goalie Jimmy McCool made 16 saves as Syracuse won seven of its last eight games.  WAER
  • Former Syracuse guard Sophie Burrows committed to North Carolina Saturday after starting 65 games over three seasons and averaging 11.0 points + 5.8 rebounds as a junior; she entered the transfer portal on April 1, and her departure leaves Syracuse with only four players for next season.  The Daily Orange
  • After a 14-9 loss to North Carolina that snapped a six-game win streak, Syracuse men's lacrosse will host No. 9 Virginia Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome at 4 p.m. Local fans can tune in on 88.3 FM.  WAER
  • Carrier Park Field of Dreams in DeWitt will open its final phase on May 16, featuring six sports fields and accessible facilities for players with assistive devices.
