  • On April 15, community activists from groups including the Syracuse Peace Council + Citizen Action gathered outside the James M. Hanley Federal Building in Syracuse to protest federal tax spending as the income tax deadline coincided with the event.  CNY Central

CRIME NEWS

  • Pastors and civil rights advocates held a rally Tuesday night at Bethany Baptist Church in DeWitt demanding that deputy John Rosello, who fatally shot two teens in 2023 after turning off his dashboard camera during a 911 call, be removed from active duty—community leaders also called for improved training and mandatory use of body cameras to prevent future violence.  Syracuse.com

  • Former NBA star Carmelo Anthony greeted fans at a dispensary event in Downtown Syracuse on April 14—he promoted his cannabis brand Stay Melo that he launched a year ago. He will return on May 11 as the keynote speaker for Syracuse University's commencement ceremony.  CNY Central

  • Lois Agnew served as emcee during the One University Awards held April 11th in Hendricks Chapel to honor Syracuse University community members for achievements in academics, creative work, and service.
