BUSINESS NEWS

  • Regal Cinemas has agreed to pay $2.5M in a settlement to moviegoers who bought tickets using guest checkout between July 31, 2023 and July 15, 2024 in New York, including at its Regal Destiny USA location in Syracuse. Customers who submit a claim by April 21 will receive a payment based on the fees they paid—Regal Cinemas denied wrongdoing and will now display the full ticket cost before purchase.  Syracuse.com

CRIME NEWS

  • The Onondaga County District Attorney's Office said it will indict Radu Turner, 48, who is accused of murdering Kenquan Davis, 39, on Elmbrook Drive in Manlius—Turner turned himself in on April 12 after a manhunt and also faces a criminal weapons charge.  CNY Central

CULTURE NEWS

  • Metallica will perform on Saturday, April 19, at 6 p.m. at the JMA Wireless Dome, marking their first concert in nearly 30 years and one of Syracuse’s largest events with over 46,000 tickets sold. Opening acts Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies are set to perform—drivers are advised to plan ahead for heavy traffic and limited parking.  Syracuse.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • On April 11th, off-duty paramedics Justin and Winona Schindler were at Daniella’s Steakhouse in Syracuse when they rushed to help an older woman choking — they used the Heimlich maneuver, performed CPR for about five minutes, and applied a LifeVac device to clear her airway — before an ambulance took her to the hospital. Her daughter later said the woman is doing great, and the restaurant owner praised everyone’s quick action.  Syracuse.com

  • The Syracuse Crunch clinched their seventh consecutive playoff berth with a 3—2 overtime win over the Hershey Bears today at the Giant Center. Conor Sheary scored the winning goal in overtime as the team now holds a season record of 36—22—8—4.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse head coach Fran Brown backed quarterback Rickie Collins after Trebor Pena entered the transfer portal. He said Collins has a strong work ethic and that the team will add another quarterback after Michael Johnson entered the portal, with Collins expected to be healthy for practice in June.  Syracuse.com
