  • Private Harland Hennessey's remains will return to Boonville in July after DNA, dental, and anthropological tests identified him — he left for World War II in May 1941 and died in a POW camp in 1942. His long-awaited homecoming comes 84 years after he left and will be marked with a special tribute in his hometown.  Syracuse.com

  • A man in his 30s was shot on the night of April 17 on the 300 block of Palmer Avenue and taken to Upstate University Hospital in stable condition—Syracuse Police are investigating the incident.  CNY Central

  • The 2025 Syracuse International Jazz Festival will kick off June 25 with local musicians and headliners like Trombone Shorty and three Rock and Roll Hall of Famers — and it will run for five days at multiple venues. All concerts are free and open to all ages.  Syracuse.com

  • Upstate University Hospital officials gathered Friday to honor Donate Life Month while organ donor Franci Vanwie said her husband Ken’s kidney donation to a New Jersey woman brought her peace and joy after years of caregiving—she now plans to write to the recipient to share more about him.  CNY Central

  • New data through April 15 shows that average home sale prices in Onondaga County rose at least 18% in two towns as Skaneateles climbed 21.3% to over $1 million and Elbridge increased 18.4% to about $229,000—Syracuse saw a 13.6% rise with 187 homes sold and countywide averages reached roughly $301,400—indicating an overall 9.1% increase.  Syracuse.com

  • On November 2nd, 2024, the Syracuse Orange Football team played the Virginia Tech Hokies at the JMA Wireless Dome—an updated transfer tracker detailed recent player movements and listed all transfers. The tracker kept fans informed about which players joined or left the team.  Syracuse.com
  • Anglers in the annual WalleyeFest derby on Oneida Lake will use a new mobile app starting May 3 at 12:01 a.m. to register and submit photos of their fish instead of weighing them at stations, while a tagged fish prize is on hold after DEC disallowed fish tagging (the tournament ends May 4 at 11:59 a.m. with a fish dinner and live music at Brewerton Speedway).  Syracuse.com
  • Yesterday, the Syracuse Mets swept a doubleheader against the Buffalo Bisons at NBT Bank Stadium with a 3-0 shutout in game one and an 11-5 win in game two — Brandon Sproat pitched six scoreless innings in game one while the team hit five home runs and built their winning streak. The series continues today at 1:05 p.m. as left-hander Brandon Wadell starts against Buffalo’s Trenton Wallace.  Syracuse.com
