- ➤ A man in his 20s was shot in the leg on the 900 block of James Street in Syracuse on April 30 at about 4:19 p.m. and was taken to Upstate University Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening while police maintained a large presence, closed the street, and later reopened traffic. - ➤ All 11 Westhill lacrosse players involved in the abduction of a younger teammate turned themselves in within 24 hours of a 48-hour ultimatum from the district attorney—who warned they might face felony kidnapping charges—receiving appearance tickets for unlawful imprisonment. Syracuse.com

- ➤ On April 30, Syracuse filed a complaint with the State Supreme Court against Mayflower Management Group over unsanitary and unsafe conditions at Nob Hill Apartments, where residents reported no hot water and worsening living conditions. - ➤ Community members and local leaders voiced concerns about Mayor Walsh’s $348.4M fiscal budget for fiscal year 2026 during the City Common Council hearing on Tuesday. The plan, which calls for a 2% rise in property taxes and water fees and is forecast to widen the deficit by $34M, will be revised by May 8—councilors stress that spending must be clear and efficient. - ➤ A new apartment building is under construction in downtown Syracuse and will feature four units designated as affordable housing that must meet a zoning code requirement of 10%—serving those earning about 80% of the median income (roughly $58,000). City officials said the project is part of the effort to address the housing crisis while the Greater Syracuse Tenants Network expressed concerns about the term, and the building is expected to be ready for occupancy in Spring 2026.
