- ➤ Renovators gutted a century-old house at 1216-18 South Ave. to completely remove lead paint and create a safe place for families with children while their homes are repaired using a $265,000 project funded in part with $200,000 from Sen. Rachel May’s office. Families can qualify and move in on Sept. 1 if the city replaces the lead water service line—an issue being addressed statewide—before the project is finished. Syracuse.com

- ➤ A Colorado man—Jerry P. Gordon—was arrested last week when federal agents stopped him at Newark airport as he flew toward Syracuse with a plan to set up a sniper’s nest and kill someone in Cayuga County after sending threatening emails and texts, federal officials said. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Isaiah Wright was indicted for murder after investigators found his DNA on the knife used to kill Jamar Martin in a March 20 incident at 306 Basin St (his codefendant reportedly claimed she planned to frame him) and his trial is scheduled for Dec. 15. Syracuse.com
- ➤ An 18-year-old man — Rephayah B. Oselmo — was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm after he shot a man on the 900 block of James Street at about 4:20 p.m. on April 30th; the injured man was taken to Upstate University Hospital and Oselmo is held on no bail at the Onondaga County Justice Center. - ➤ Westhill High School's men's lacrosse coach Aaron Cahill addressed an April 24 hazing incident in which 11 older players targeted five younger teammates—one victim had his hands tied and was threatened with a gun and knife—and the team canceled its season after suspects turned themselves in within 24 hours following a 48-hour ultimatum. - ➤ National Grid has proposed increasing electric delivery rates by 27% and gas delivery rates by 37% over three years while boosting bill discounts for over 150,000 low-income Energy Affordability Program customers—many of whom would see little change in their bills.
