  • Central New York Pride will expand its Syracuse lineup this June with new events developed in partnership with Come Out CNY—scheduled activities include flag raising ceremonies, parties, art exhibits and a parade and festival drawing thousands to the Inner Harbor.  Syracuse.com
  • Advocates in Syracuse are finishing work to turn a house at 1216 South Ave into a shelter for families whose homes have lead hazards fixed. The project, partly funded by state money and local nonprofits, will house two families free for up to six weeks — letting them stay in their community — and is expected to open by Sept 1.  Central Current

CRIME NEWS

  • Westhill Central School District said lacrosse players involved in a hazing incident that abducted a younger teammate faced school discipline and criminal charges—eleven players received appearance tickets for unlawful imprisonment while the varsity season was canceled.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse man Ezell Hicks Jr. (61) was fatally shot in a road rage incident in Armory Square on April 23, and a 2015 Ohio arrest report revealed he had prior weapons offenses and a butcher knife in his car matching the one used during the shooting—authorities confirmed the shooter will not be charged.  CNY Central

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fifty years ago, Lars Tiffany’s father gave 11 buffalo to the Onondaga Nation on 65 acres, and today nearly 100 buffalo roam the land (a gift that has grown into a living symbol of local heritage). Lars Tiffany recently returned the original deerskin treaty (detailing 11 buffalo, his family and 14 chiefs) to a cultural center on Onondaga Lake to honor that bond.  Syracuse.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tyler Betsey (a 6-foot-8 forward who played at Cincinnati last season) has committed to join Syracuse men's basketball next season, adding a new perimeter threat to the team. His move comes as Syracuse builds its roster through the transfer portal.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack was appointed to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Selection Committee, replacing North Carolina’s Bubba Cunningham. His five-year term will begin Sept. 1 and end in 2030 and he will represent the Atlantic Coast Conference on the committee.  Syracuse.com
  • Section III student-athletes have committed to play collegiate sports at various colleges and universities across the country, competing in lacrosse, soccer, track and field, and other sports. Their decisions (including choices like Niagara University and SUNY Oswego) underscore a strong spring signing class (with many other top schools represented).  Syracuse.com
  • Delta Air Lines announced Friday that it will add two flights and extra capacity for Syracuse Orange away games next season—fans can fly on an upgraded A321 service for the Tennessee game on Aug. 29 with a return on Aug. 31—and special nonstop CRJ-900 flights will serve the Notre Dame game on Nov. 21 with a return on Nov. 23.  CNY Central
