- ➤ Matt Mulcahay from CNY Central was officially added to the Syracuse Press Club Wall of Distinction downtown—following a board vote that reviewed over 20 nominees. He celebrated the honor at the annual award dinner and said he will mark 40 years in reporting next year. CNY Central
- ➤ Van Robinson, a long-time Syracuse politician and advocate for the Black community, died at 87 Saturday afternoon at Upstate University Hospital. He served 18 years on the Common Council — including as its first Black president — and led the local NAACP for many years. Syracuse.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Syracuse Common Council will hold a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 — a step in plans to replace about 10 miles of sidewalks using funds from property fees and state reimbursements. Crews will post notices and restrict driveway access for 2 to 3 weeks as work begins in the 2025-26 fiscal year. Syracuse.com
- ➤ The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting drivers to an upcoming lane closure along Interstate 81 Southbound in Syracuse. The lane will be reduced to one from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from May 5 to 9 for bridge work — construction is weather-dependent. CNY Central

- ➤ Saturday saw the fourth annual Central New York Walk for Brain Cancer Research organized by medical student Nneka Onwumere to support Debbie's Brain Cancer Research Fund.
