  • Van Robinson—former Syracuse Council President and community advocate—died; his work in civil rights and his push to remove the elevated Interstate 81 viaduct helped shape the city. Mayor Ben Walsh said his steady service and sacrifice made Syracuse a better place for all.  CNY Central
  • The 47th annual Mountain Goat Run took place Saturday in Syracuse and marked the start of festival season with races for adults, a timed fun run for children, and a new family pet walk. Participants noted the event’s growth over the years—drawing thousands of runners and celebrating community spirit in personal ways.  CNY Central
  • Syracuse Police Chief Joseph Cecile answered viewer questions about a hazing incident at Westhill School District and warned that illegal ATVs could pose a public safety threat—he said Forman Park will host a memorial today for fallen officer Michael Jensen.  CNY Central

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Onondaga County Water Authority has started its largest water system upgrade since the 1960s to support Micron Technology’s planned semiconductor complex in Clay—this project will more than double water drawn from Lake Ontario. Officials say the expansion will meet the growing demand in the region.  Syracuse.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • On May 4, the Syracuse Orange lacrosse team went to the ACC Championship to face the Duke Blue Devils at American Legion Memorial in Charlotte—game started at 12 p.m. ET on ACC Network. They earned their spot after beating Notre Dame in the semifinal.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse forward Jyare Davis received an invitation to the NBA G League Elite Camp in Chicago from May 9 to May 11, where he will participate in drills and five-on-five games before NBA and G League scouts; he averaged 9.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse.com released a gallery of high school spring sports photos that captured games from April 28 to May 3 across Section III. The images show baseball matchups including Cicero-North Syracuse versus Baldwinsville and Port Byron versus Cato-Meridian along with softball, lacrosse and track events captured by local photographers.  Syracuse.com
