- ➤ Andy Mondo—a Vietnam veteran—returned to the Chimes Building on Thursday for the first time since 1966 to revisit the landmark that once changed his life. The art deco building is undergoing a $40 million restoration by the Allyn Family Foundation and will add 152 housing units when it reopens in March 2026—marking a major step in downtown revitalization. - ➤ Five jobs in the Syracuse metro area saw their annual median pay increase at least 30% in 2024, with federal data showing a 204% jump for medical scientists, whose pay rose from about $50,000 to over $153,000; telecommunications installers also saw nearly a 49% rise from roughly $63,000 to $95,000—other roles included health care practitioners and bartenders. - ➤ Micron Technology plans to build microchip plants that will double Onondaga County's water use and could lead to higher water bills for neighbors.
