  • Mike Price, a longtime Syracuse TV broadcaster best known for his ‘Baron Daemon’ character—who hosted children’s shows and Halloween specials—died at age 87 after a 46-year career at NewsChannel 9, WIXT-TV, and WSYR-TV. He served in the Coast Guard Reserves, attended Syracuse University, and received the Syracuse Press Club’s highest honor, leaving a lasting legacy in local broadcasting.  Syracuse.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dakshin Indian Cuisine opens a new South Indian restaurant in Armory Square where owner Vimala Mohanraj brings her family recipes and a massive tandoor oven—starting takeout on Sunday with full dine-in service planned for July.   • Philadelphia artist Chris B. Murray is set to paint a Jim Boeheim mural in downtown Syracuse (215 W. Fayette St) after receiving permission from Boeheim and the building owner. The Syracuse Public Arts Commission will review the design on May 13, and Murray will seek the $90,000 funding needed to complete the work later this summer.  Syracuse.com

  • Micron’s draft environmental impact report for its planned chip plant in Clay shows the project could bring thousands of new jobs and boost local income while putting pressure on roads, housing, and natural areas — the report warns that public agencies must invest in major infrastructure improvements as the site work is set to begin in November and construction unfolds over the next two decades.  Syracuse.com

  • Today, Syracuse University’s Hall of Languages turns 152—built from local Onondaga limestone that holds fossils from ancient sea life—and stands as a key marker of our school’s long history.  Syracuse.com

  • Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced two public meetings that will be held on May 13th at 6 p.m. at the Southwest Community Center — and on May 15th at 6 p.m. at the Cecile Community Center to gather input for Phase Three of the Onondaga Creekwalk Extension aimed at enhancing trails in Southside and Valley neighborhoods.  WAER
  • Micron Technology proposed major highway changes to ease future traffic in Clay and Cicero—these include new exits on I-81 and Route 481, a redesigned diverging diamond interchange at the I-81/Route 31 exit, and widening Routes 31 and 11; the county is reviewing the report and will invite public comment in early June.  Syracuse.com

  • Gov. Kathy Hochul said the state budget gives $3 million to extend sewers from East Seneca Turnpike to a former country club site on Lafayette Road for Syracuse’s largest housing subdivision in decades—KS Global Development will build nearly 300 homes and public amenities in phases to support future growth tied to Micron Technology’s planned semiconductor plant.  Syracuse.com
