CRIME NEWS

  • A former investment broker from Cazenovia was charged Tuesday with wire fraud and aggravated identity fraud after he stole over $640,000 from a 61-year-old man, his 91-year-old mother and two other family members by making unauthorized withdrawals from their accounts — he concealed bank statements and impersonated clients during the theft from June 2021 to November 2023.  Syracuse.com

  • In Syracuse, four jobs that require only a high school diploma paid over $100,000 a year — including roles like electrical power line installers, elevator repairers, power plant operators and police supervisors — as shown by federal data released in April that reflected May 2024 pay rates.  Syracuse.com

  • SUNY ESF held its commencement at Empower FCU Amphitheater on May 10th, awarding 377 degrees—including 37 master’s and 16 Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The ceremony also honored Dr. Jean M.J.   • On Saturday, Bishop Ludden/Bishop Grimes girls lacrosse ended an 11-game losing streak during senior night when senior Charlotte Hsiao scored a career-best seven goals—marking the program’s return after years of dormancy—and guided the team to an 11-9 win over Mexico. Coach Taylor Chadderdon, hired weeks before the season, said the close finish and team unity raised hopes for future wins as they prepare to face Marcellus on Monday.  Syracuse.com
