Good morning, Syracuse.

Today, Syracuse University held its commencement at the JMA Wireless Dome where about 6,900 students graduated and Carmelo Anthony, a Syracuse basketball alum and 10-time NBA All-Star, spoke about strength and thankfulness on a day that honored mothers.

He encouraged the new graduates to follow their dreams—he also noted that his son Kiyan will join Syracuse this fall as a student and basketball player.

Today, the Syracuse Common Council unanimously rejected the city's proposed budget, a move that may cut overtime funding for police programs such as a noise party detail and aggressive panhandling initiatives downtown.

Police chief Cecile warned the cuts could delay plans to hire new officers before the mayor leaves office—adding strain to a department that lost 10 officers this year with another 15 expected to retire.

The Syracuse Mets lost 5—2 to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Sunday in Jacksonville—splitting the series as both teams won three games; they will return home on Tuesday to begin a two-week homestand with a six-game series against Lehigh Valley starting at 6:05 p.m.

Syracuse.com released a photo collection showcasing top images from high school spring sports in Central New York—featuring baseball, flag football, lacrosse, and softball games captured by local photographers between May 5 and May 10.

Syracuse University's men's lacrosse team overcame a five goal deficit in the fourth quarter to secure a comeback victory with a final score of 13 to 12 in overtime at JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday evening, with redshirt senior Owen Hiltz scoring the game-winning goal.

The team will advance to face No. 3 Princeton on Saturday at Hofstra.
