- ➤ Today, Syracuse University held its commencement at the JMA Wireless Dome where about 6,900 students graduated and Carmelo Anthony, a Syracuse basketball alum and 10-time NBA All-Star, spoke about strength and thankfulness on a day that honored mothers. He encouraged the new graduates to follow their dreams—he also noted that his son Kiyan will join Syracuse this fall as a student and basketball player. CNY Central
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Syracuse Common Council unanimously rejected the city's proposed budget, a move that may cut overtime funding for police programs such as a noise party detail and aggressive panhandling initiatives downtown. Police chief Cecile warned the cuts could delay plans to hire new officers before the mayor leaves office—adding strain to a department that lost 10 officers this year with another 15 expected to retire.
