- ➤ On Saturday, May 16, nearly 300 people celebrated the grand opening of Superfield of Dreams park at Carrier Park in East Syracuse (a $16M baseball complex for the largest Challenger League in the country). The park, in development since 2006, hosted games and speeches from league leaders and local dignitaries. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Jordan Bramley Library in the Village of Jordan will host its annual Plant and Book sale on May 23 and start its summer reading program in June. The small library also hosts family-friendly events and offers pool passes throughout the summer. CNY Central
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Patrick W. Berry was awarded the inaugural Syracuse Prize from CNY Arts on Thursday at Art in the Atrium in downtown Syracuse. He received a $10,000 grant to support Project Mend, which offers creative opportunities for people affected by incarceration. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Disney’s Frozen The Broadway Musical opened May 15 at Syracuse Stage (820 E. Genesee St.) and runs until June 21, showcasing creative staging and diverse casting that offers families an engaging winter-themed theater experience. Syracuse.com
- ➤ On Saturday, crowds filled Syracuse’s Inner Harbor for the seventh annual Battle of the Wings festival, enjoying classic Buffalo wings, innovative flavors and live music — local vendors said many found new favorite tastes. Fireworks were cancelled due to construction, but the festival still boosted local business and community. CNY Central
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ More than 850 students graduated from Le Moyne College on May 16 at the Exposition Center at the New York State Fairgrounds. The ceremony celebrated about 600 undergraduates + 250 postgraduates and featured speeches urging graduates to serve and build meaningful lives. Syracuse.com
- ➤ On May 16, Onondaga Community College celebrated 679 graduates, among them high schoolers earning Associate degrees, and honored local leaders such as Oren Lyons and Joe Cecile with honorary degrees. - ➤ Helio Health Foundation held its tenth annual Run for Recovery 5k at Green Lakes State Park on Saturday, May 16. Over 500 runners supported efforts to raise funds and awareness for substance abuse, mental health, and housing challenges — an event that highlights community care. CNY Central
