- ➤ Sustainability Management intern Emma Kaputa and Catholic Charities staff unloaded over 30 bins of donated items from North Campus and South Campus—these donations will be given to local groups including the YWCA, Rescue Mission, and the Boys & Girls Club, while food items went to the South Campus pantry. - ➤ Syracuse firefighters responded to a structure fire on Merriman Ave late on May 17—arriving just after 11 p.m. to put out a second-floor blaze in about 30 minutes while crews stayed nearly 2 hours for cleanup and investigation, with no injuries reported. CNY Central
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Syracuse Police said a 42-year-old suspect died after an exchange of gunfire on North Townsend Street on May 13th—officers said he fired first and returned fire—and no officers or civilians were injured, while a recovered handgun is now part of an ongoing investigation by the Attorney General’s office. - ➤ Professor Bing Dong has been named the Traugott Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Syracuse University—his appointment honors late Fritz and Frances Traugott and supports research in energy systems and building performance. - ➤ The Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team will face Maryland on Saturday, May 24 at 2:30 p.m. at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough (Maryland reached the Final Four with a 9-6 win over Georgetown).
