- ➤ Larry Freeman Jr., 44, of Syracuse was charged with second-degree attempted murder after he stole a firearm from his acquaintance and shot him twice in Salina Monday at around 2:45 p.m.—the 66-year-old victim is in critical condition while Freeman faces additional charges for robbery, assault with intent to cause serious injury, and criminal possession of a weapon as he had outstanding warrants for robbery and failure to register as a sex offender. - ➤ The family of Miles Dignean filed notice it will sue the sheriff’s office and state police after deputy Corey Whitney fatally shot him on March 21 during a struggle to serve a court order at his Constantia home—family lawyer Jesse Ryder said officers used violent tactics despite knowing he suffered from a brain injury. - ➤ Voters in four Central NY school districts rejected the 2025-26 budgets, with Jordan-Elbridge approving only 47% of a 1.5% tax increase and others failing to meet the required 60% vote under state law—these districts must now choose between a revote or operating under a contingency budget without a tax hike. Cortland voters also approved buying traditional buses while rejecting an electric bus initiative, setting the stage for further decision-making in the coming revote on June 17. Syracuse.com
