ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Syracuse firefighters stopped a fire at 342 Park St on May 24th when a neighbor reported flames from a first-floor bedroom started by smoking materials + two residents were displaced while other residents soon returned safely + no injuries occurred.  Syracuse.com

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 23 at 8:07 p.m., Syracuse police responded to a stabbing on the 200 block of Putnam Street—officers found a 49-year-old man with an abdominal wound who was taken to University Hospital and is in stable condition, and they are asking anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Division.  CNY Central

  • The Silent Book Club meets on the second Friday of each month at Fairmount Community Library from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.—a quiet alternative for book lovers that became popular after the library took a risk by staying open late.  CNY Central

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cornell won an NCAA men’s lacrosse semifinal 11—9 over Penn State at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough to secure a spot in the national championship game on Memorial Day. The team will face the winner of the Syracuse and Maryland game on Monday at 1 p.m.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse University’s tax forms showed that fired football coach Dino Babers received over 8.8 million dollars in severance from more than 13 million dollars in total 2023 compensation after a season where the team won 6 games and lost 7—he was let go following the Boca Raton Bowl loss. The documents also revealed that men’s basketball coach Adrian Autry earned nearly 1.8 million dollars, making him one of the highest-paid figures in the athletics department.  Syracuse.com
  • Central New York golfers recorded holes-in-one from May 16 to May 19 at courses such as Millstone, Tuscarora, Cazenovia CC, and Hickory Hill while Joe Giancola, 92, shot his age at Lakeshore Yacht-and-Country Club on May 20.  Syracuse.com
