  • On Saturday, dozens gathered at Upper Onondaga Park for the first-ever Pawsitively Strathmore pet resource fair offering affordable spay/neuter, microchipping, and rescue info; organizers collected pet supply donations + a recent city audit report urged improving shelter standards.  CNY Central
  • Veterans, families, and community members gathered Sunday at Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Howlett Hill Road to honor fallen service members ahead of Memorial Day. More than 6,000 flags symbolized the heroes, and sixth grader Riley Lawless read a poem to share their sacrifice.  CNY Central

  • Netflix and Sony are seeking Upstate New York actors with North Country accents for their adaptation of Liz Moore’s novel The God of the Woods, which will film in Beacon from June 1 to Oct. 1. Applicants should email a headshot, resume and reel to the casting office.  Syracuse.com
  • On May 3, 1926 during Boys’ Week, 14-year-old Jimmy Kelley was elected boy mayor and ran City Hall for one day. He enforced parking rules and other duties while local officials stepped aside — marking a unique moment in Syracuse’s rich civic history.  Syracuse.com

  • Marcellus senior Carly Sears drove in the winning run as the Mustangs rallied from a 3–0 deficit for a 5–4 walk-off win over Jordan-Elbridge in the Class B quarterfinal on Saturday — scoring in five consecutive innings.   • Section III finalized baseball seedings on Sunday — West Genesee tops Class AA and Oriskany leads Class D while outbracket play for Classes B and C and Class AA’s first-round game start today, with finals later at Onondaga Community College and Falcon Park.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse football is in the final four for wide receiver Chanin Harris (a four-star recruit and three-time state champion track runner who had 648 yards and seven touchdowns last season), with an official visit to Wisconsin scheduled for June 5 as the team expands its Class of 2027.  Syracuse.com
  • While Port Byron was seeded No. 12 in the Class C sectional tournament, its softball team upset No. 4 Sauquoit Valley with a 10-7 win on Saturday as coach William DeAngelis said the underdog role helps surprise opponents.
