  • More than 300 flower baskets are being placed along downtown Syracuse streets today to welcome summer as part of a city beautification effort.  CNY Central

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pizza Hut on Brewerton Road in Cicero closed its doors Sunday after the chain announced the decision on social media. It was one of the last locations in Central NY and the company said about 250 outlets would close in early 2026, leaving more than 6,700 still open.  Syracuse.com

  • Sonny Rollins died Monday at his Woodstock home (he was 95) leaving behind a rich legacy in jazz, marked by his Syracuse Jazz Fest performance in 1994 and two Grammy Awards. His career spanned over 50 years as he continuously redefined bebop and experimental music.  Syracuse.com

  • On April 9, Micron surpassed $1 trillion in value at its downtown Syracuse location (One Lincoln Center), becoming the 10th-most valuable public company in the U.S. as demand for its memory chips drove a record surge in its stock.  Syracuse.com

  • New York’s online HAB reporting system, NYHABS, is now live as DEC + DOH urge residents to report harmful algal blooms on computers and mobile phones; Cayuga Lake recorded its first bloom on April 23.  Syracuse.com
  • Experts say tornado reports in central New York have increased in recent years due to advanced detection and local land features — a shift that researchers are studying using AI and weather data to better track storms.  CNY Central
