ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Syracuse woman riding a motorcycle was seriously injured and lost her baby after a pickup truck ran a red light at the intersection of Factory and LeMoyne avenues in Salina on Friday, May 30 — she is in critical condition and receiving treatment for multiple injuries.  Syracuse.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • eBay closed TCGplayer’s downtown office after it said the division could not break even and laid off 220 unionized workers who had not received raises since 2021. The company will move the work to Kentucky while 400 nonunion remote workers stay—workers claim the move is a union-busting effort that erased their tight-knit community.  Syracuse.com

  • Lil Wayne will perform at the Empower FCU Amphitheater at Lakeview on Aug. 8 as part of his That Carter VI tour with Tyga and Belly Gang Kushington opening the show—tickets go on sale on June 6 at 10 a.m. with a presale on June 5 at 10 a.m. using the password TREBLE.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders will address renters’ rights at a public forum today at 6:00 p.m. at Victory Temple Fellowship Church, where Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens + Councilor Hanah Ehrenreich + Councilor-at-Large Amir Gethers will discuss Good Cause protections and rental reform amid Syracuse’s housing crisis.  WAER
  • Today at 7 a.m.—Renwick Avenue between Martin Luther King East and Van Buren Street in Syracuse will permanently close for the I-81 Viaduct Project, and drivers must follow a new traffic pattern in the work zone.  CNY Central
  • The City of Syracuse Division of Code Enforcement shut down Westcott Theater immediately after investigations found dangerous code violations, including a fenced patio that could trap concertgoers—police had responded to shots fired on May 31 with no injuries, and the owner must now fix the issues to avoid fines.  CNY Central

HEALTH NEWS

  • Families For Lead Freedom Now released a report Tuesday showing that Syracuse and Onondaga County did not enforce the 2020 lead ordinance, leaving nearly 9.4% of children with high lead levels. The report—using public records—found that more citations have not lowered the risk of lead poisoning for many local families.  Central Current

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rome Free Academy, Camden and Solvay captured their sectional softball titles by beating Baldwinsville, New Hartford and Marcellus, respectively—Whitesboro, Sandy Creek and Hamilton also won and will move directly into regionals while Camden and Solvay must win subregionals to advance.  Syracuse.com
  • Bishop Grimes rallied with a two-run push in the sixth to beat Utica Notre Dame 7-6 at Onondaga Community College on June 3 & clinched the Section III Class C baseball title as the school ends its last active spring team before closing this school year. The team will face Deposit-Hancock in the state tournament on Saturday & hope to keep their momentum going.  Syracuse.com
  • The Skaneateles boys tennis team won a 3-2 match against Glens Falls on Tuesday to secure the Class C section title — with wins by freshman Noah Soderberg and senior Jake Salzhauer — and kept their 14-0 record. They will play in the state semifinals on June 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens — a key step toward a state title — as they prepare for the next round.  Syracuse.com
