GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayoral candidates answered a weekly question on Destiny USA, a large mall on Syracuse's North Side now facing severe financial challenges after defaulting on a big loan. They offered ideas that range from reducing new city aid to turning the mall into a mixed-use space with housing and green energy—aiming to keep it a local asset rather than a 'zombie property'.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse councilors cancelled a plan to reassess over 41,000 properties to balance tax inequities and avoid a $1.8 million expense. The decision comes as councilors running for mayor and other critics worry about tax hikes — a change that will slow future property assessments.  WAER
