ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 12th, emergency crews responded to a rollover crash involving a passenger van near Exit 36 on the I-90 Thruway in Syracuse—ten people were taken to Upstate University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as traffic slowed.  CNY Central
  • Syracuse firefighters rescued five people during an apartment fire at Parkside Commons on Thursday night when they responded at 8:29 p.m. (2003 E. Fayette St.) with five trucks and two ambulances; the fire was controlled in about 20 minutes, and one person treated by EMS refused further care while residents of the affected unit await instructions and others returned to their apartments.  Syracuse.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Brian Wilson, cofounder of the Beach Boys, died Wednesday at age 82, leaving behind a legacy of hit songs and musical innovation. He told a 2017 interview (recorded when he performed in Syracuse for the 50th anniversary of Pet Sounds) that he wanted to be remembered as a great songwriter.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early voting for the primary begins Saturday, June 14, and runs through June 22 across Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison, and Oswego counties—voters must be registered with a party to cast their ballots at designated in-person and mail sites ahead of the June 24 primary.  Syracuse.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lab THRIVE is an interdisciplinary research lab at Syracuse University that studies student mental health using both numbers and stories. The team led by Yanhong Liu, Qingyi Yu, and Michiko Ueda-Ballmer published studies on wellness and will begin focus groups in fall to improve campus support programs (with doctoral students gaining hands-on research experience).  Syracuse University
