COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, nearly 7,000 people gathered in Syracuse for the nationwide No Kings protest on Solar Street near Destiny USA—it stretched almost three-quarters of a mile and featured speakers like Congressman John Mannion and local veterans urging change. Organizers said the crowd was much larger than in a past protest and believed the turnout would press government representatives to act.  WAER

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged a first-floor apartment at Parkside Commons at 2121 E. Fayette St. on Saturday night when firefighters arrived at about 8:18 p.m.—no one was inside and no injuries were reported as the blaze was contained in 20 minutes.  Syracuse.com
  • On June 14, a fire on Crockett Drive in Cicero killed two elderly residents—Anthony Senzarino, 81, and Diane Senzarino, 75—while injuring firefighters who were treated and released on June 15 and a blind 24-year-old grandson escaped by using his sense of heat.  CNY Central

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal investigators charged 12 people with conspiracy and said a cross-country drug ring supplied meth & cocaine to a Syracuse dealer while hundreds of pounds of drugs were seized from 2021 to June 2025.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction began Monday on the Hanover Square fountain in downtown Syracuse as part of a $1.3 million project updating its facade, lighting, landscaping and seating—marks a new phase for the pocket park. The Hanover Thursdays live music series will move this summer to nearby Perseverance Park—ensuring local events continue.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse mayoral candidates who submitted their petitions are answering a weekly question by giving Mayor Ben Walsh a letter grade as he wraps up his final term; they have up to four days to send in their responses—Walsh cannot run again due to the term-limit law after his 2021 win.  Syracuse.com

  • New data shows that in four towns, Lysander, Onondaga, Pompey and Skaneateles, the average home sale price has increased by at least $45,000 compared with last year + Skaneateles homes now sell for over $1.03 million while countywide prices exceed $300,000.  Syracuse.com

  • Former Syracuse football commit LaNorris Sellers is projected to be a top five NFL Draft pick as mock drafts place him as high as the second overall selection next year — his performance has drawn strong attention from NFL scouts.  Syracuse.com
  • At Oswego Speedway this past Saturday, Otto Sitterly drove a new Hawk-built supermodified to win the Jim Shampine Memorial main event for a record ninth time as the 2025 season began. Several drivers earned their first wins and two serious crashes sent three racers to hospitals, making for an eventful weekend.  Syracuse.com
