- ➤ On May 30, a pickup truck ran a red light—striking a motorcycle at the intersection of Factory and LeMoyne avenues in Salina and throwing 23-year-old Rebecca Woodcock, who was six months pregnant, into a stopped vehicle; she lost her baby and died on Saturday after weeks in hospital. - ➤ Micron announced that 90% of its new roles will directly involve manufacturing memory chips and many workers at its Idaho headquarters and Virginia chip factory are local hires. - ➤ A New York City litigation firm, Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel, LLP, filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of the family of 22-year-old inmate Messiah Nantwi, who was beaten to death at Mid-State Correctional Facility on March 1 when officers including Jonah Levi and Caleb Blair are accused of murder while an 11-count indictment unsealed on April 16 charged them with second-degree murder. - ➤ Court documents show that Level 1 sex offender Ryan J. Pontello admitted he felt aroused by young girls after his 2013 conviction for sexual misconduct with a 5-year-old and he was arrested on June 10 in North Syracuse after he allegedly raped another 5-year-old by luring her away with candy from a playground near the Windsor Place Apartment complex — he is also accused of sexually abusing a 3-year-old. - ➤ Whitman School of Management students Odette Sherk ’26 and Deedra Samuel ’26 were selected for the 2025 AWESOME Excellence in Education Scholarship, which gives them an all-expenses-paid trip to the CSCMP EDGE Conference and ongoing career support. - ➤ On June 16, Senator Christopher Ryan honored more than 80 student artists from 11 schools at Solvay Public Library—each student received a Certificate of Appreciation for their work in the 2025 Student Art Showcase.
