CRIME NEWS
- ➤ TV chef Anne Burrell, a Central New York native, was found dead in her Brooklyn home before 8:00 a.m. Tuesday—pills were discovered near her body and police are investigating the possible cause of death. Syracuse.com
- ➤ Former Syracuse basketball player Brendan Paul testified Friday in Lower Manhattan in the trial of music mogul Sean Diddy Combs—he denied being a drug mule and said he supplied drugs for Combs on fewer than 10 occasions under an immunity deal. His testimony is expected to be one of the final statements before the government rests its case next week. Syracuse.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jorge Morales ’26 from the Maxwell School has been named a Beinecke Scholar—a competitive award for students pursuing graduate studies in the arts, humanities and social sciences—and he is spending the summer in Puerto Rico to research Caribbean colonial history as he prepares to pursue a Ph.D. Syracuse University
- ➤ Twenty-three high school commencements are scheduled this weekend for thousands of students in Central New York — covering Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison and Oswego counties. Schools will conduct ceremonies to award diplomas and mark the end of studies. Syracuse.com

- ➤ Early voting is underway for Syracuse’s mayoral primary and local races, and county officials said turnout is more than double past levels—740 early voters have been recorded so far.
