CULTURE NEWS

  • This past weekend, over 20,000 people attended the CNY Pride Parade and Festival at Syracuse’s Inner Harbor, where the Syracuse Skate Gang led the event as Grand Marshal and various community groups celebrated inclusivity — the parade began on Solar Street and ended at Progress Park with music, vendors, and family-friendly fun — marking a vibrant display of pride and unity.  CNY Central

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Mortgage lending in Syracuse increased by 9.3% in the first quarter with 916 new purchase loans, bucking a nationwide decline. The city ranked No. 34 in purchase loan growth as reported by ATTOM Data.  Syracuse.com

  • Onondaga County Public Libraries held an event at CNY Pride on June 21 and are planning summer programs to keep kids reading during break. The Soule Branch will host a Strawberry Social on June 24 (from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.) and White Branch Library will celebrate its centennial on July 1 (with historical exhibits, a proclamation and food).  CNY Central

  • New York lawmakers approved a bill that makes companies pay up to $75 billion over 25 years to help communities protect themselves from climate change—two lawsuits from fossil fuel groups and the federal government are delaying the fund's start, and Gov. Hochul said she will fight the legal challenge.  Central Current

  • Drivers on I-481 in DeWitt will face overnight lane closures from Monday, June 23 through Saturday, June 28 and again from Monday, June 30 through Thursday, July 3 for bridge work over the CSX rail yard—DOT said that the single-lane setup may change with weather and urged caution in work zones.  CNY Central

  • Engines roared at Onondaga Lake Park’s Willow Bay on Saturday, June 21 when vintage raceboats competed at the Syracuse Vintage Raceboat Regatta; the event continues today from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. plus fans can view open pit sessions, vintage flybys and crews from across the country including one from Australia.  Syracuse.com
  • Peyton Rothfuss, a five-star lacrosse prospect from Penfield, flipped her commitment from Florida to Syracuse when she announced her decision on social media. New coach Regy Thorpe was introduced at the Lally Athletics Complex on Wednesday, June 18 & now leads the SU women’s lacrosse team.  Syracuse.com
  • Game Point Sports in East Syracuse is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. June 28 at 211 S. Center St.—the new facility offers courts for basketball, volleyball and pickleball and has ties to two former Syracuse basketball players.  Syracuse.com
