CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Syracuse Police tied four shootings this week to illegal gun trafficking after arresting three people in a case that moved 52 handguns from Georgia—16 were found locally and one was used in a murder-suicide. ATF data show that guns in the state are typically recovered 11 years after purchase, and in 2023 Syracuse recovered 352 firearms used in crimes. CNY Central
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ County and federal officials released a nearly 20,000-page draft environmental impact statement today on Micron Technology’s chip plant in Clay, which shows plans for traffic improvements like a new I-81 exit by 2031. The report highlights issues such as increased greenhouse gas emissions, loss of wetlands, and more households and jobs, while the public can submit comments until Aug. 11—hearings will be held on July 24.
