ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two women from Upstate New York were the only survivors of a boat accident on Lake Tahoe last Saturday—8 people died, including a DoorDash executive, near D.L. Bliss State Park as survivors received medical care and authorities continued search efforts.  Syracuse.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A 20-year-old driver is facing charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular manslaughter, vehicular assault, and DWI after a high-speed crash on James Street on June 26 that killed one person, injured four others, and left three ejected from his vehicle — he was reportedly speeding and intoxicated.  CNY Central

  • Central New York will host many events this weekend as families enjoy Rt. 80 Stables’ Family Fun Festival—featuring a petting zoo, pony rides and a record-setting bounce house—and attend the World Refugee Festival at Grant Middle School, science activities at MOST, Cazenovia’s Pride Festival, a Beach Boys concert at Lakeview Amphitheater and the Syracuse Jazz Festival. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Village resident Niala Dixon was named the 2025 winner of the Co-Generation Steam Plant Scholarship by the Syracuse Housing Authority; she is a Nottingham High School graduate who plans to study law at Syracuse University in the fall. The full-ride scholarship will provide $350,000 over four years—covering housing, meals, books and tuition—and recognizes her academic success, leadership in high school basketball, and community service.  CNY Central

  • The city of Syracuse won a court order on June 18 to stop alleged illegal cannabis sales at The Herbal Center, 916 N. Salina St.—the business argued the city was exceeding its authority.  Syracuse.com

  • The Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division announced its 2025 boys lacrosse all-stars as selected by Section III coaches + the picks highlight the top local talent set to compete in upcoming games.  Syracuse.com
  • Hamilton's Ellie Freeth was named Class D state player of the year — the New York State Sportswriters Association announced the all-state softball teams and recognized her as Section III’s lone state champion — a result that marks a major achievement in her season.  Syracuse.com
  • Jamesville-DeWitt's Lucas Patchen was named boys lacrosse small school player of the year at the awards held at Liverpool High School. The 2024-25 All-Central New York small school boys lacrosse team includes 15 players chosen by local reporters + additional finalists were Marcellus' Chris Doshna II + Skaneateles' Luke Mizro + Jamesville-DeWitt's Ben Porter.  Syracuse.com
