COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Tully Free Library reopened after ten months of renovations and now has an elevator, two meeting rooms, and an open circulation area for easier access. The library ended its temporary move to Tully United Community Church — the improvements bring a more welcoming and accessible space to the community.  CNY Central

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 4th, a 2017 Dodge Durango crashed into a tree on Lakeview Drive in Scriba and caught fire, killing driver Gerald Burke while neighbors rushed to rescue an 8-year-old boy whose leg was trapped by a stuck seatbelt—using a pocket knife to free him before firefighters arrived.  Syracuse.com
  • On July 4, a car crashed on Lakeview Road near 115 Lakeview Drive in Scriba when it hit a tree and caught fire—local residents rescued a child who sustained non-life-threatening injuries while the driver, Gerald Burke, died at the scene.  Syracuse.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A 44-year-old man was injured in a shooting early Saturday on the 400 block of Wilkinson Street in Syracuse — police found spent casings at the scene and transported him to Upstate University Hospital where his condition remains stable.  CNY Central

  • Farmstead 1868 in Homer is hosting its annual 'Purple Paradise' celebration today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—featuring more than 20 artisan vendors, hands-on classes and demonstrations among over 4,000 blooming lavender plants as Monica Cody and her family mark a tradition born during the pandemic.  CNY Central
