ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Late Saturday night, Syracuse firefighters responded to a basement fire at 241 S. Collingwood Ave.—they rescued a dog from the home in about 20 minutes with no injuries reported while the cause remains under investigation.  Syracuse.com
  • A 23-year-old motorcyclist was in critical condition after he crashed into a parked car on Midland Avenue & Tallman Street at 10:22 p.m. Friday, and he was transported to Upstate University Hospital with no other reported injuries.  Syracuse.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Syracuse University Libraries’ Blackstone LaunchPad awarded a Student Start-Up Fund grant to Thomas O’Brien ’25 this spring for his company, Ten Open Projects — which provides video production services to small and medium-sized businesses. The grant covered customer outreach and company formation expenses, receiving support from donors like Jeffrey Rich ’67 and Yvonne Hyland.  Syracuse University

  • Former Syracuse football star Tommy DeVito returned on Saturday to the Inner Harbor for the Pizza and Pasta Festival where he met fans, signed autographs, and served chicken cutlet sandwiches — he also shared his support for the local football program and said he will fight for his Giants roster spot when training camp begins on July 23.  CNY Central
  • On July 12 the Ostrom Avenue Podcast featured AJ Myers and Griffin Bloomstein discussing the football team's signing of five-star recruit Calvin Russell and Fran Brown’s clear impact — they also debated if quarterback Rickie Collins holds an advantage and noted that two familiar opponents were missing from the men’s basketball nonconference schedule.  WAER
  • On Saturday night, the Syracuse Mets lost 11—9 to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at NBT Bank Stadium after Francisco Alvarez hit two home runs and pushed a near comeback. The Mets will finish their six-game series on Sunday afternoon with Blade Tidwell starting at 1:05 p.m.—a game they hope will turn their season around.  Syracuse.com
  • Marla Runyan L’25, a College of Law graduate who lost most of her sight yet raced in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, will be inducted into the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Hall of Fame this month—she earned key titles and set records in major races.  Syracuse University
