ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A man riding a minibike ran a stop sign and was hit by a car at the intersection of Kirkpatrick and Spring streets around 5:13 p.m. on July 14 — he was taken in critical condition to Upstate University Hospital, police said. Syracuse.com
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Syracuse Police Benevolent Association President Joe Moran defended his vague Facebook post from Sunday evening that mentioned 40 arrests and five guns recovered in Armory Square on Friday and Saturday—saying he wanted the community to know what was happening—while police chief Joe Cecile and Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens explained the arrests were for open container and loitering violations as officers worked to curb late-night issues downtown. - ➤ U.S. Army Pvt. Henry J. Smith from Fulton, who was captured and died as a POW during World War II, was identified on June 5 after detailed analysis by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
