  • Local residents in Liverpool are invited to celebrate Onondaga Lake Appreciation Day this summer at Onondaga Lake Park—where Liverpool Public Library partners with Onondaga County Parks and regional groups to offer environmental education, live music, crafts, tai chi, bird walks, storytimes, food trucks and a film screening at the Salt Museum from 4 to 7 p.m.  CNY Central

CRIME NEWS

  • An Auburn officer’s ear was partially detached — the injury occurred when he fell onto a metal wire — during a Monday night traffic stop for a suspected drunk driver near North and York Streets, and the driver, who refused a breath test, was charged with DWI and assaulting an officer before being taken into custody at Cayuga County Jail.  Syracuse.com
  • Auburn Police Officer Henderson’s ear was partially detached when he tried to arrest Chad McMillan, a suspected drunk driver who resisted field sobriety tests on July 21—McMillan now faces a Class C Felony for assaulting an officer.  CNY Central
  • A woman was taken to a hospital Tuesday, July 22 after she was found unconscious in a living room fire at Grant Village Apartments at 210 Village Drive in Syracuse — firefighters swiftly contained the blaze in five minutes and no other apartments were affected.  Syracuse.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Landmark Theatre in Syracuse is undergoing a $1.5 million restoration that cleans, repaints, and repairs nearly 100-year-old decorative features in its auditorium to revive its 1928 look. The work began after the May 18 closing of Beetlejuice and will be finished before Sept. 9 for Hamilton’s opening—offering a refreshed venue for the new season.  Syracuse.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Crews are finishing two floors in the former Central Tech facility—soon to be the new STEAM school—for 250 students who will start in the fall. Syracuse Schools Superintendent Anthony Davis said 80% of the first cohort are from the city and plans call for adding 250 students each year until the school reaches 1,000 in enrollment.  WAER

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Troopers increased patrols as New York State launched a public awareness campaign using the 'Check Your Height, Know It's Right' slogan to help stop truck drivers from hitting low bridges like the Onondaga Lake Parkway. Officials say 350 strikes were reported in 2024—pushing the state to act after serious accidents including the 2010 Megabus disaster.  CNY Central
