  • A fire broke out at Grant Village Apartments in Syracuse on July 22, injuring one person when firefighters rescued the victim from heavy smoke — crews controlled the blaze in 30 minutes and the injured individual was taken to Upstate University Hospital.  CNY Central

  • The fund for sexual abuse survivors in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse grew to $176.1 million after two insurance companies reached settlements that added $15.1 million — diocese lead lawyer Robert Kugler said.  Syracuse.com

  • Syracuse City Auditor Alexander Marion and Councilor Corey Williams announced new legislation yesterday that updates the traffic code to make blocking bicycle lanes a violation—this rule follows key recommendations from recent reports and aims to improve road safety.  CNY Central
  • Syracuse officials are planning a $500,000 project to improve safety at the CSX Railroad bridge on Park Street—trucks had crashed into the bridge more often after the highway exit to Onondaga Lake Parkway closed. Both lanes near Destiny USA were closed when a truck hit the bridge on July 12th.  Syracuse.com
