ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A sanitation worker named Alexander M. Snow died Monday afternoon on Route 14 in Granby when a car hit him while he was crossing the road with a rolling container to return to his truck — the driver, Kyle J. Parker from Baldwinsville tried to help at the scene.  Syracuse.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Modovolo— a Central New York drone startup— and Lamarr AI, with ties to Syracuse University, are among five finalists chosen by Empire State Development for the Genius NY accelerator program. They will refine business plans until May and later pitch for up to $1 million at the INSPYRE Innovation Hub in downtown Syracuse, with the winner announced on May 7, 2026.  Syracuse.com
  • Rodney Haymes, who once sold weed illegally, will open a state-licensed cannabis dispensary called the Dank Bank by the Budd Boyz this fall in the former Chase Bank branch on Court Street Road in DeWitt—he plans to use its vault and drive-thru lanes to offer quality products and support his nonprofit for community outreach.  Syracuse.com

  • A Syracuse woman is charged with second-degree manslaughter after she pushed a 68-year-old man off a stool and kicked him at Guilfoil’s Irish Pub on May 31—she said 'good' when she learned he might be dead.  Syracuse.com

  • Professor Rebecca Xu is leading a course where students use AI to explore creative art—she said that learning to work with the technology can help spark new ideas.  Syracuse University

ECONOMY NEWS

  • National Grid is set to expand its substation on Caughdenoy Road in Clay to power Micron Technology’s new chipmaking complex while Onondaga County Water Authority asks the state for permission to draw 50% more water from Lake Ontario—both efforts are planned before Micron begins work this fall pending government approvals.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clay officials said they are proud to host Micron Technology’s planned chipmaking complex and stressed that project costs must not fall on local taxpayers— they urged that Micron cover its own expenses.  Syracuse.com
  • Residents in Dewitt and East Syracuse raised concerns that low-value homes are being over-assessed and taxes are increasing ahead of a Town Board meeting. Town Board members explained that property values are based on both each home and the surrounding properties—leaving some homeowners with a difficult appeal process.  CNY Central
  • Syracuse Common Council voted on Monday, August 12, to swap housing projects with the Syracuse Housing Authority and plan a community center for children at Latimer Terrace+the plan submitted to HUD aims for construction of the Children Rising Center by 2033.  CNY Central

  • Thunder Island in Fulton, a 113-acre amusement park with a water park, go-kart track, mini-golf course and banquet hall, is up for sale for $1.5 million. The park is closed for the 2025 season—owners plan for future redevelopment.  Syracuse.com
