ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A gas leak at the intersection of Nichols and Burnet led crews to evacuate three homes and shut down the road in Syracuse at 7:20 a.m.—the fire department and National Grid are inspecting the area.  CNY Central

CRIME NEWS

  • Crime in Syracuse is down this year compared to 2024 and earlier years, and police credit the drop to new patrol methods—such as officers leaving their cars and using credible messengers to talk with kids—for the change.  Syracuse.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The state Public Service Commission approved a new rate hike for National Grid today that will increase bills by about 10% next month—adding roughly $600 a year for the average household. The decision aims to maintain a reliable system for its pipes and wires.  Syracuse.com

  • Five hospitals in Central New York (Auburn Community, Cayuga Medical Center, Crouse, St. Joseph’s, Upstate University) have been recognized by the American Heart Association for improving care for patients with heart disease and stroke.  CNY Central
