CULTURE NEWS

  • At the New York State Fairgrounds, sculptors Jim Victor and Marie Pelton unveiled the 2025 butter sculpture on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the dairy building, turning 800 pounds of butter that arrived last week into this year's centerpiece. The live stream let viewers watch the tradition without needing a ticket.  Syracuse.com
  • In 1890, Syracuse became the permanent home of the New York State Fair after local leaders and the Syracuse Land Company raised funds and secured the 100-acre Smith, Powell, and Lamb farm near Onondaga Lake—ending the fair’s years on the move. The move set a historic foundation for the fair, which has continued to boost the city ever since.  Syracuse.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • A children’s hospital in Buffalo will be renamed Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in January 2026 after Tom Golisano donated $50 million to improve pediatric care—he has also supported hospitals in Syracuse and Rochester with multi-million dollar gifts to help provide quality care for children across New York.  Syracuse.com

  • Coach Fran Brown named Steve Angeli as Syracuse’s starting quarterback after Monday’s practice, saying his Notre Dame transfer experience gives him the edge over Rickie Collins (an advantage that will help the team prepare for their September game against Tennessee).  Syracuse.com
  • Christian Brothers Academy’s football team aims to be the seventh school in New York to win three straight state championships after winning 43 of their last 44 games at preseason camp—coach Casey Brown said enjoying the win is the hardest part of his job.  Syracuse.com
  • Syracuse football named Notre Dame transfer Steve Angeli its starting quarterback for the opener against Tennessee according to ESPN — the decision was announced Monday morning before the quarterbacks returned to practice.  Syracuse.com
