  • Today in Central New York, Sylvan Beach Village Park hosts the 8th annual Boat Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. while Fayetteville holds a guided walking tour at the Matilda Joslyn Gage Center from 10 to 11 a.m. On Sunday, Syracuse’s Everson Museum of Art holds Skate & Create from noon to 5 p.m.—Cazenovia’s Critz Farms celebrates National Dog Day with a farm parade and talent show—and NBT Bank Stadium offers a ticketed pet parade with $5 canine tickets.  CNY Central

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 21-year-old man died Thursday evening near the New York State Fairgrounds on I-690 east when his Suzuki motorcycle struck the back of a Ford F-250 pickup after the vehicle changed lanes — police said he may have been speeding while the pickup driver was not injured.  Syracuse.com
  • A 74-year-old Syracuse woman died in a car crash on West Genesee Street in Camillus on August 20th at 11:10 a.m.—she was driving a Chevrolet Trax that crossed the center line and struck a Toyota Sienna and a BMW 330 Series—with occupants of the other vehicles taken to Upstate University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  CNY Central

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visitors to the New York State Fair enjoyed local craft beverages at the Tasting Yard—located in the Horticulture Building—as part of a Taste NY event showcasing local flavors.  CNY Central
  • On August 21, 58,372 people visited the Great New York State Fair as better weather and popular performers like Taylor Dayne, Cheap Trick, and AJR brought roughly 4,500 more guests than last year—CNY Central will track attendance during the fair’s 13-day run.  CNY Central
  • Thomas Rhett headlined a sold-out concert at the Empower FCU Amphitheater in Geddes on August 21—he was backed by rising acts Tucker Wetmore and The Castellows. The show featured lively hits and personal moments that marked summer’s end for the crowd.  Syracuse.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Oneida City School District announced that full network connectivity was restored across all district buildings just days before the school year starts—thanks to coordinated efforts by its IT department and regional partners. Flood damage at the high school means 500 students will attend classes at Otto Shortell Middle School in the morning while middle school students go later.  CNY Central

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New York State DOT has stopped closing one lane on I-81, I-481, and I-690 as well as on state routes 695 and 481—ensuring at least two lanes remain open so nearly 900000 fairgoers can reach the New York State Fair outside Syracuse until Labor Day.  WAER
