CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rahim Williams, 37, was sentenced to seven years in prison for pleading guilty to first-degree assault for his role in the April 2023 kidnapping and beating of Koddie Beechner in Syracuse—prosecutors noted his lesser involvement but ruled that his part in the brutal crime warranted the sentence. - ➤ At the Great New York State Fair in Geddes on Monday, August 25, the event featured Maple Day with maple foods and a 24-foot trailer of educational exhibits, free admission for law enforcement on Law Enforcement Day, and free entry for pass holders on State Parks Day. - ➤ Starting Sept. 3, new speed and red-light cameras will be active in Syracuse school zones near schools like Dr. Weeks Elementary, with drivers receiving warnings until Nov. 2 — then $50 fines will be issued if they exceed the 10 mph reduced limit. Officials say the cameras issue civil tickets that do not add points and warn drivers to pay or dispute within 40 days to avoid extra penalties. Syracuse.com
