  • Syracuse workers can find jobs in health care, manufacturing, construction and maintenance today at a job fair hosted by Jubilee Homes and the city at the Onondaga County Central Library—held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and featuring employers such as Upstate Medical University and Syracuse University.  Syracuse.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Five people detained Thursday, September 4 at the Nutrition Bar Confectioner plant in Cato are now facing federal charges for reentry after being previously removed—court documents show they were originally from Guatemala or Mexico.  CNY Central
  • Jerry P. Gordon pleaded guilty to threatening a sniper attack to kill someone in Cayuga County — he flew from Colorado to Syracuse, was arrested at Newark airport, and now faces up to 5 years in federal prison.  Syracuse.com
  • Police responded around 10:50 p.m. late Monday night to a shooting in the 100 block of Dickerson Street where a 44-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his lower leg—his injuries are not life-threatening and officials have not yet determined the exact location.  Syracuse.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Syracuse’s Landmark Theatre completed a 1.5 million restoration last week — cleaning, repainting, and repairing its ornate decorative details — in time for Tuesday’s opening night of Hamilton. The work revealed long-hidden artwork that highlights the theatre’s original design.  Syracuse.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Syracuse Fire and Police Departments will host a September 11 Remembrance Ceremony Thursday morning at Forman Park beginning at 8:30 a.m.—attendees are asked to arrive by 8:15 a.m. to join a candle lighting and observe 17 minutes of silence marking the interval between the initial Twin Towers strikes.  WAER

  • Two projects by Syracuse-based Jubilee Homes and Massachusetts-based BLD Properties plan to add 126 affordable apartments along South Avenue—an effort that could become one of the largest new housing additions in years.
